September 3, 2009

The third sunrise of the month.

The Tooth Fairy did indeed visit last night . . .

Bayleigh was excited to get to school and show her friends that she'd lost her first tooth.

While we waited for the bus, I took a few moments to play. Our barbed wire fence really needs to come down, but I think it made for an interesting shot this morning.

And the kids have both went through fazes of picking "fox tails". By the thousands . . .

Although they're not my first choice for a bouquet, I still appreciate the thought behind them. And they are quite pretty in the right setting.
My little girl was SO tired after school. We read through her homework and she immediately sacked out on the couch.
Since it's a four day weekend, we decided to treat the kids to a campfire with hot dogs and s'mores. A nice way to end the evening.

Another gorgeous sunrise!

I tried my hand at spray painting this afternoon. Here's the before . . .

and after two cans of spray paint it still needs a second coat. Guess I'll be making another trip to Lowe's.

Along with the spray painting, I painted all the trim for my "retreat", and then Dave and I took the kids fishing, after Bayleigh got home from school.

We didn't catch anything, but the kids sure did have fun playing in the mud along the river bank.

As soon as we got home from fishing, Dave, Stacey and I hopped on our bikes and rode for a half hour. We came home to this . . .

Bayleigh finally pulled her loose tooth (with a little assistance from grandma).

She was over the moon about finally losing a tooth. And now we settle in to wait for the Tooth Fairy.

I've started a new project for the month of September. I'll be keeping a journal and taking a photo of the sunrise each morning. I'm attempting this in an effort to be more present. So to start off September, here's my first sunrise . . .

Today was a busy day of running errands and trying to get back before Bayleigh gets off the bus. I went out to let the chickens out right before we left and stumbled across this . . .

still forming, growing, and soaking up nutrients. Something I would have otherwise never have given a second thought in photographing somehow looked magical this morning.

Dave slept on the trip down, so I made a side trip to Justice Jewelers to have my wedding ring checked and cleaned. I'm sure they were wondering if I painted houses for a living. My ring was completely caked with paint of various colors.

After we finished up there, we headed to Macy's for a wedding gift for Dave's brother. Eli and I made several trips up and down on the escalator while Dave was using the facilities . . .

And I loved the colors of this display! Even if they DIDN'T have them lined up in the correct order.

We buzzed through the mall and I made a sashay through Victoria's Secret, then we were off to the bike shop again.

I think I've decided on a Trek Mountain Bike, but at $690, I think we'll wait until we get back from Michigan . After the bike shop we ran through Lowe's to pick up my trim, and then we headed back North for Dave's dentist appointment with a short stop at Wal-Mart along the way. While he was at the dentist's office, Eli and I stopped by the Scrap Nook to pick up a few goodies, then it was back to pick up Dave and then a quick run through the park.

What a whirlwind! Unfortunately the day wasn't over for me . . .

when I got home I had a call needing me to help my brother and sister-in-law haul hay. I finally made it in after supper. It felt good to finally crawl in bed.

After a busy day of house work, Dave, Stacey and I went for a bike ride, while grandma watched the kids. Of course the kids think it's great to play on the dirt pile behind the house . . .

just to see how dirty they can get . . .

and Eli is trying to make me old before my time . . .

the little rat. He's fearless when it comes to something like jump off of mountains . . .

and he thinks it's just a riot that he can stand on top of the mountain and "hide" from mommy . . .

He must think that mommy wouldn't DARE climb his mountain, but I've got news for the boy. Mommy can climb any mountain I take a notion to!

Bayleigh has a severely loose tooth. This will be her first to come out . . .

but not today! Grandma tried and I tried, but her tooth is so tiny we just couldn't get ahold of it. It will come out in due time.

August 29, 2009

I woke up to a VERY foggy morning, but knew it would quickly disappear. I couldn't wait to get outside and capture a few shots before the sun came out in full force.

After I'd gotten the kids to bed last night, I went up to start peeling the tape off of my completely dried desk, and ended up having a little difficulty with the paint peeling; so I saved the rest for this morning, and took a craft knife to it to keep from peeling any more paint. I also noticed that in my haste to get this thing painted, I missed a few spots on the inside next to the doors. Live and learn . . .

My mom is such a sweetheart. She knows how much I'm wanting to get this all done, but trying to keep two kids occupied while I paint is rather challenging. So this morning she came over and picked up BOTH kids and I dove into the paint cans. I managed to finish painting the "closet" . . .

and hubby helped me bring the arm of my desk and a file cabinet upstairs for painting, before he left for work.

I primed it . . .

then went downstairs and threw in some laundry and dishes while I waited for it to dry. It only took me two hours to paint the closet and prime the desk, and when I called my mom to see if she needed me to pick up the kids, she'd already got Eli down for a nap. So I ran back upstairs and put the first coat of "Cowboy Boot" brown on, then touched up the peeled and unpainted section of desk number one.

Since I still had time on my hands I started sorting my ribbons, fibers, and flowers. Heavens! What a mess!

I ended up cleaning out a full one gallon zip lock bag, and sorting the rest into small zip locks by color and putting them all in a plastic storage container. I'll probably go back through them again, before I get moved in and see if I can find a better way to sort and store them.

It was a busy and yet productive day. Although I missed having the kids around, it felt wonderful to get so much accomplished in such a short period of time. Thanks Mom! Love ya!

August 28, 2009

Desk number one is done, except for a few minor touch ups.

I also managed to get my photo wall put back together. It's been over a year since my photos were hanging here and it's good to see them back up again.

The kids LOVE it!
