December 28, 2009

Today started out with a busy day of cleaning, packing and preparing for our trip to Dave's folks for Christmas.  We stopped at the "Lake" to do a little last minute shopping, and were finally on our way as the last rays of sunlight dropped off the horizon.

I was surprised that Dave wanted to stop at Central Dairy for ice cream, since it was so close to dinner time. He said his mom was fixing lasagna, and he's not too fond of her version, so he thought it would be a good idea to fill up on ice cream before we got there.

Other than the burnt layer on top, I thought the lasagna tasted fine, and even after the half gallon sized hot fudge sundae I had, I think I still did the lasagna justice.

But BEFORE we had supper, we had to open presents.  Eli got "Frank", whom he decided he HAD to have about a week before Christmas.  (I'm glad Ebay was handy and had just what we were looking for.  The package arrived just before we left for Dave's folks this morning.  WHEW!  Saved by the postal service!)

And Dave's brother Doug, got some air tools for his new air compressor . . .

while Bayleigh opened package after package of games and puzzles.

but the best gift of all, was finding out that I'm going to be an Aunt, some time in August.  Dave's folks were completely taken by surprise!  It's going to be a long wait, but we're hoping that the little peanut comes out healthy and strong.  Congratulations Doug and Kasi!

Dave's dad dressed up for dinner . . .

and after we all filled up on lasagna, Bayleigh roped grandma and grandpa into a game of "Old Maid" . . .

while Doug and Dave attempted to assemble toys.

I think this one was a particular favorite of Eli's . . .

and I know he'll get LOTS of air time in with it! I think the kids were overly "gifted" this year, so it looks like a New Year purge will probably be in order.

  1. I realized this year how you know when a kid has gotten too many toys for Christmas. I was helping my 4 year old friend clean up her room and found NUMEROUS brand new toys that had never been out of their boxes, etc...

I'm not saying that she's spoiled, I'm saying she's loved so much that she has too much.. LOL
