May 12, 2010

Today I'm thankful for long naps and 12 of 12.  After the night I had last night, I was desperately in need of a nap, and as for 12 of 12 . . . I always look forward to my 12 photos on the 12th of each month.

We had thunderstorms ALL night last night and after I got the kids to bed,  I stayed up for a while just watching the light show outside.  Lightening was lighting things up all around us.

I'd just settled in for a good night's sleep around midnight, when Eli woke up crying.  The storms were scaring him, so I laid down with him until he went back to sleep.  I finally got him settled in and was getting ready to head back to bed when he woke up again.  This time with the leg ache.  I gave him some Ibuprofen and took him to potty, while we were up, then we headed back to bed.  I finally made it back to my own bed around 4:30 a.m.  My alarm went off 20 minutes later, so I hit snooze and slept in until 5:30.  I needed that extra 40 minutes!

When I got up, I looked out the window and there were lightening bugs flying around all over the place.  It was really quite beautiful, but I wasn't able to capture a very good picture, so the one above is about an hour later.  The skies looked like they would open up again, but so far the rains have held off for a while.

Next on the agenda was getting my grumpy little girl out of bed and getting her dressed.  This is always such a chore.  SIX more days until school is out . . . and I'm counting them down!

While I was still in a functional mode, I threw in a load of laundry, unloaded and re-loaded the dishwasher, and went outside to plant my flowers, while Eli and Dave baked cookies.

Eli got to lick the beater and I think he had more dough ON him than in him.

(*And yes . . . I planted flowers in my pajamas and gum boots.  Pretty stylish, huh?! lol)

When I got in from planting flowers, I took a quick shower and vacuumed my retreat.

Then Eli and I sampled a few cookies.

By this time . . . I was running pretty low on steam, however, Eli wanted me to play trains with him.  So I played trains for a while. Then he decided he wanted to play "camp-out".  Ahhhhh . . . music to my ears.  His version of camp out is to cram his bed with pillows and stuffed animals and then crawl under the covers.  Right down my alley!  But as soon as I got settled in, a little boy AND a cat decided to chase each other, then Dave needed me to help him get his stuff ready for a meeting.  So much for a nap!

I DID manage to snag a nap after Dave left though.  Eli and I climbed up on the couch and I think he was out before I was!  We must have both needed the rest.

I woke up about a half hour before Bayleigh got off the bus, so I went out and looked at the flowers I had planted.  I was pleasantly surprised to find another one in full bloom!  They are called Gazinia's and they're just beautiful!

After Eli woke up . . . he wanted to go see Grandma.  He was a little peeved that he couldn't go see her RIGHT at the moment, but he quickly got over after Dave got home.

While Dave occupied the kids, I ran upstairs to throw my layout together for the day.

And I went out to snap a few photos of the little kittens.  Just a few more short weeks and they'll be ready to head off to new homes.

And I'm throwing in an extra photo today, just because it's so cute.  THIS little kitten is going to be a handful for someone.  lol  It's a brave little thing and always out of it's cubby, exploring.  It also likes to follow me everywhere.  It's a shame we can't keep it, but we already have too many as it is!

Dave grilled steak tonight and we all sat around the dining room table and enjoyed a pleasant meal as a family.  It's nice to have him home every now and again.

The kids have went over to grandma's for a short while, but will be home soon.  I plan on giving them their baths, tucking them into bed with a nice bedtime story and then getting myself off to bed, to see if I can catch up from the sleep I missed last night.  Here's hoping!

  2. So, you're a doing a theme where you'll be increasing the photos according to the date?

I still don't know where you get all your energy from. You seem to have a very busy life, but still manage to capture amazing photos, take for instance the photo of the sunflower.. Looks like it was painted.

Hope you catchup some sleep, because I'm sure you really need one.

  3. Thanks Shirley! ;)

    M. ~ I just do a 12 of 12 project once a month. Although what you mentioned might be a fun idea for a future photo challenge . . . ;)

Although I'm usually full of energy . . . the past two nights of little to no sleep are catching up with me. I plan on doing only the things I have to do today, and trying to squeeze in a nap this afternoon! We'll see how that works for me. lol
