June 11, 2010

Today I'm thankful that it doesn't bother me to get my hands dirty occassionally.

Or the rest of me for that matter.  I ended up spending most of my day outside working on the yard.

I think between Dave and Eli, they've managed to get the front yard smoothed out and sloped away from the house, so we're hoping this keeps the rain waters from seeping under the house.  (Not that we've had to worry about rain the past few weeks . . .)

Dave used mom's tractor and the rock rake to finish things up, after he and I raked and smoothed everything by hand.

The dozer man also showed up this morning about 9:00 a.m. to push some trees and stumps and smooth out the kids play area, so we can get the chain link fence up.  Above is the "before" photo . . .

and now it's all ready to start putting up fence!  It will be so nice to have a fenced in area that the kids can play in, without me having to worry about them getting too close to the highway.  Slowly but surely we're making progress on the place.

Keith (the dozer man) did an EXCELLENT job of clearing things off and making it all look nice.  He finished clearing over half the property in eight hours and even gave Eli a ride on the track loader.  He also kept the kids occupied most of the morning, just by being there.  Bayleigh and Eli were both pressed up against the glass on the door, watching him push trees and brush for at least two hours!  What a great form of babysitting!  A bit expensive for a babysitter, but whatever works.

It's been another busy day.  No great photos, but maybe tomorrow I can remedy that and get outside to take some "FUN" photos.

I think I'm going to bed early tonight and sleeping in tomorrow.  I've got a lot of catching up to do, since Eli has been waking up several times a night this past week.  I'm not sure what the problem is, but I think it's time to get the kids back on a strict schedule (and me too!).

  1. That's a huge and lovely yard, wish I had one like that.

I hope the work the boys did will stop the water from getting under the house. Do you also own that CAT?

    Lovely photos as always!

  2. Thanks M.~ We have about 7 acres, so it's a nice little section of land.

The CAT belongs to the guy that came out and did the clearing for us. It was huge, but didn't seem to bother Eli in the least. I was afraid Eli would want to go home with the him. lol
